Second-Degree Murder — All Charges Dropped

A Case of Self-Defence

She was accused of killing her child's father after five years in a relationship in which, she says, he was repeatedly violent towards her. She spent two years and eight months in custody. Robb brought a motion to obtain her ex-partner's records, establishing a documented history of violence and criminal activity. The Crown and the court saw it, and every charge was withdrawn.

Second-Degree Murder — Home Before Christmas

A Mother's Account

Her son was charged with second-degree murder. She describes Robb proving at trial that the witnesses against him were lying, and making her a promise about when her son would be home. He kept it.

"Robb promised me before Christmas that they were going to bring him home. Then he did it. Without Robb, I don't know where I would be right now, or whether my son would still be in there."

Walking a Client Out of a Murder Preliminary

"Seeing Robb in court was truly an eye-opening experience, because you could see how vigorous his cross-examinations are, but he also takes an interpersonal approach when he is speaking to the jury."

He describes a murder preliminary inquiry with three other co-accused, where opposing counsel badgered the main witness for two or three days and got nothing out of her. Rather than harass her, Robb drew the truth out calmly. She warmed to him and told the court that his client had been nothing but an observer. Their client walked out mid-inquiry while the co-accused went on to trial. "That was one of the coolest experiences of my life."
