You can apply for disability benefits when a physical or mental health condition has made it impossible for you to earn a monthly income of over $1,220. However, your health is not the only thing used to determine the benefits you deserve.

What are the Non-Medical Requirements for Disability Benefits?

To qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you need to earn less than $771 monthly. For a couple, the income limit is $1,157. You should also be at least 65 years old.
For SSDI, you need to have an earnings record, contributions to social security taxes, and be unable to earn more than $1,220 monthly. For the blind, the income limit is $2,040 per month.
